Data Science and Big Data Analysis
The online course Data Science and Machine Learning: Making Data-Driven Decisions offers a shorter option for data science professionals looking to harness data in new and innovative ways. Participants learn theory and practice behind recommendation engines, regressions, network and graphical modeling, anomaly detection, hypothesis testing, machine learning, and big data analytics. This course is offered in collaboration with Great Learning.
Impact for Organizations
“Our business has data at its core. In a competitive marketplace, we have a growing need for employees trained in the critical field of data science with strong analytical skills. The MITx MicroMasters in Statistics and Data Science provides an excellent opportunity for learners to have rigorous training in statistics, data analysis and machine learning, and to develop the skills necessary to be competitive in a world increasingly shaped by data.”

Statistics and Data Science Team
A faculty director, assistant director, program manager, and group of TAs comprise the MicroMasters team in IDSS. The group meets weekly to evaluate needs and assess materials, and provides weekly outreach to industry partners to discuss cohort performance, program updates, and offer feedback. MIT team members welcome partners regularly to campus to discuss next steps, brainstorm new ideas, and attend IDSS conferences and workshops.
Dedicated Teaching Assistant (TA)
IDSS recruits and selects MicroMasters Teaching Assistants (TA) with each industry partner. TAs are evaluated and matched for each course supporting the cohort of students with 20 hours per week. This includes:
- Interactive, live weekly office hours to cover course material, homework assignments and questions
- Targeted materials prepared in advance by TAs
- Review sessions and preparation for mid-term and final exams
- Online events as needed to address concerns or material
- Access to video recordings of recitations
