Strategic Partnerships in Research

Explore multiple projects simultaneously across a wide spectrum of disciplines and domains.

To create and foster broad engagement between organizations and multiple faculty across IDSS, industry members join a three-year IDSS Strategic Partnership anchored in Research. The structure allows for great flexibility on topics and provides access to hundreds of researchers.

IDSS research is rooted in three core disciplines: Statistics and Data Science, Information and Theory Decision, and Human and Institutional Behavior.

Faculty members working in these areas come from all five schools at MIT: Engineering, Science, Architecture and Planning, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Management.

Domains of Expertise

Dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher

Strategic Partners are assigned a dedicated Postdoc to coordinate projects, identify new activities, and share information about relevant research.

Access to Graduate Students

In addition to Postdoc support, Strategic Partners can connect with IDSS graduate students. Two flagship programs include the Social and Engineering Systems (SES) PhD program and the Technology and Policy (TPP) master’s program.

Tailored Conferences and Workshops

IDSS and Strategic Partners bring together experts from academia and industry to discuss the affect of big data on contemporary challenges and its impact on society and systems. Recent events include:

IDSS Retail Conference: Data Driven Disruption
Fundamental changes as a result of data analytics and computer science in the retail sector.
