Isolat Impact

Phase One: Re-opening
March 2020 – August 2020
Faculty, postdocs, students, and partners from around the globe gathered online at 5pm every weekday. Small interdisciplinary research groups worked to model and reduce the spread of Covid-19. The Isolat group published findings online that focused on contract tracing, distancing and quarantining, ventilation, mask wearing, and testing. Isolat research contributed to the re-opening plans of the MIT campus.

Phase Two: Impact
September 2020- present
Isolat research helped the state of Massachusetts establish Covid testing guidelines for all its colleges and universities. Other Isolat projects have even built connections and provided insights to governmental agencies both local and around the world.

NIH approached Peko Hosoi and through the RADx initiative, IDSS joined forces with the Consortia for Improving Medicine with Innovation & Technology (CIMIT), a network of academic and medical institutions including Mass General Hospital that partners with industry and government to accelerate the development of innovative healthcare technologies.

Together IDSS, CIMIT, and NIH developed an online tool to help organizations build tailored Covid-19 testing strategies that can save money and reduce coronavirus spread: the Covid-19 Testing Impact Calculator at WhenToTest.org.
