Elchanan Mossel named 2020 Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellow

The Department of Defense has selected eight distinguished faculty scientists and engineers and provided $24 million in fellowship funds as part of the 2020 Class of the Vannevar Bush Faculty Fellows.

One of their selections is Elchanan Mossel, a professor of Mathematics who is a member of the Statistics and Data Science Center within IDSS and an affiliate of the Laboratory for Information and Decisions Systems (LIDS).

The Department of Defense awarded Mossel the fellowship, which “aims to advance transformative, university-based fundamental research,” for his work ‘Information Flows on Networks.’

Elchanan Mossel works in probability, combinatorics, and inference. His research has resolved open problems in computational biology, machine learning, social choice theory and economics.
