Sandy Pentland: International data science efforts and recognition

Professor Alex “Sandy” Pentland has been named founding member of the Board of Directors for the United Nations Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data. This is the body that sets the pace for countries’ National Statistical Offices and donor countries’ statistical oversight of international aid.

Pentland recently presented a keynote talk at the European Union’s Presidency opening (July 17 in Tallinn, Estonia).  The theme of the conference was the Digital Single Market. Read about the talk and watch video (Pentland introduced at approximately 36 minutes in.)

Also, Pentland has been named Chief Expert at Bejing Normal University School of Economics and Resource Management, and is establishing a research laboratory there to help add data analysis capabilities to the new model city being developed as part of Bejing. (The new city area is three times the size of New York City.)
